Photos of a College Town – Part 1

Evanston, Illinois is home to Northwestern University. Hence the predominantly younger crowd you see here. I am using an obsolete 24mm Canon FD lens. I like the color and grain it produces, but it needs quite a bit of sharpening in post-production. Hovering your cursor over the images will reveal the title of the photo, some extra fodder for the imagination perhaps. Hope you enjoy it. Drop me a comment! VIEW PHOTOS

Scenes at America’s Beauty Show

America’s Beauty Show is an annual salon industry event attended by thousands of beauty professionals. It was held in Chicago’s McCormick Place this year. ABS also pulled in hundreds of product manufacturers and exhibitors, and some celebrity stylists too (the last picture shows Vidal Sassoon). I was able to get in with a press pass through my employer Modern Salon Media. VIEW PHOTOS

Cell Phone Street Photography

I came across the work of iPhone street photographer Greg Schmigel recently. I was impressed and inspired. Using an iPhone for street photography clearly gives some advantages. The camera is always with you; giving more opportunities to practice, and fewer missed shots. Plus it helps with blending in and being inconspicuous. Here are the results of my experiment with an inferior Samsung T469. It wasn’t as easy as I thought. Some problems I encountered: blurriness, keeping really still, the camera’s slow reaction time, lack of light. But it’s worth a try especially if you’ve got a real iPhone.

Suburban Textures

These photos reflect a dissatisfaction that swells up in me from time to time, concerning life in the suburbs. The lack of meandering people. The lack of antiquity. VIEW PHOTOS
