Describing Terrence Malick’s ‘The Tree of Life’
This is how I would describe Terrence Malick’s tremendous, ‘not-made-for-masses’ movie, The Tree of Life:

Statements of truth followed by generous moments for selah.
We are more wicked than we dare to admit. There is no one righteous–no, not one. Selah.
The Creator’s might and beauty is evident in creation. Selah.
We know what is right but are unable to do it. Selah.
Grace begets grace. Selah.
Linkables 04/14/11, Music Videos
Woodkid, a filmmaker and now musician. He made this music video too.
Probably an old video from Iron and Wine, but I’ve never seen it before. Is this the Flamenco? Exquisite. Love the delicate, quick hand movements.
The video with its many quick cuts is a little jarring for me, but still, what an uplifting song.
TED Talk: Spoken Word
What do you think of spoken word poetry? I find it fascinating and inspiring as long as I’m not watching more than a couple of performances in a row. Watch the embedded talk by Sarah Kay; she gives a good introduction to this art form. I agreed with many of the points she made, even if some do consider spoken word an “insult to poetry” (as seen in the comments section of the video).
Portrait Photography – Rachelle
Here are some pictures from an afternoon shoot with our friend Rachelle. Some photos were taken at home and some at St. Mary’s in Mundelein. Thanks to my wife Megan for assisting and advising in this shoot. She’s so awesome. VIEW PHOTOS
