‘Joy to the World’ in Modern English

Joy to the world, the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.

Joy to the earth, the Savior reigns!
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.

Imagine seeing six billion people do the ‘wave’ in perfect unison, celebrating the arrival of their King.
“There he is—he comes!” the children shout.
Today the King will come to my house and dine with me—isn’t it amazing? I shall prepare a grand feast for him!

Clap your hands! We have a perfectly righteous and loving King.
He sacrificed everything to save us, so I gladly give him my allegiance.
Happy songs rise from each corner of the land, and from every creature in heaven and on earth.

No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.

End the downward spiral of rebellion and grief.
Reverse the corruption of earth, air and sea.
The King cleanses the world and its creatures of a stubborn poison.
The antidote is his own blood.

He governs the world with perfect justice and mercy.
There is nothing better than being under his loving rule.
This is a glorious wonder, and we treasure this mystery in our hearts.
